Can't find auto headlights in the manaual. Anyone else experience this? i left my headlights on when i ran into a store. came out a few minutes later they were off. Opened the drivers door and they all came back on. Tried it again. (I have a standard). It seems if i leave it in gear, brakes on, lights on, the headlights are automatic. Is this a quirk or an option?

Page 118 of the Owners Manual:

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) — If Equipped
The high beam lights will come on as Daytime Running
Lights (DRL) at DRL intensity (lower), whenever the
ignition is on, the engine is running, the headlight switch
is off, the parking brake is off, the turn signal is off, and
the gear shift is in any position except park.

So, let me get this straight, you had the headlight switch in the on position and the truck still shut them off?

I activated the DRLs on my wifes riot, but I was just under the assumtion that it would only control the "lower output high beam circuit" Its extra nice if it will shut the headlights, tail lights and parking lights off as well at the specified time. She really wants to have auto lamps like I have in my F150 (lights come on when it gets dark enough, I NEVER touch the switch) This may be close enough for her, even though it means her lights are on during the day as well, then I don't have to install an extra controller (DEI make a nice photocell autolamp controller)

I think there is an additional module that is required to operate the high beam at a "LOWER INTENSITY". They can take a little getting used to, I'll say that! I was driving down the road at dusk and wondered why I could not get the high beams to stay on.(They won't if they are in DAYTIME mode). The other thing I would like to try is the turn signal thing......to get them to go off when entering places with a guard shack. It seems to irritate them even after explaining that they are automatic. Yes, the emergancy brake will kill them to, but after the brake starts to grab!. Loosening the cable up a little would solve it also I suppose.

Thanks for the posts but I am not talking DRL's. I leave the headlight switch in the ON position (at night) and they shut off aoutomatically. I haven't stood by to time 'em so i don't know how long it tales. Only a few minutes by my guess.

Sounds like you are descibing some sort of Battery Drain protection feature. It's not uncommon in the newer vehicles to shut the lights off after a period of time (if left in the "on" position after the car is shut off) to protect you from draining the battery. My wife's van is the same way.

I have a 08 Sport 2.0 L I wonder if mine also have DLR, I would like them if there is a way to have that system work but I dont think my [at came with DLR.
If your lights are on in the daytime and your light switch is off and your dash isn't illuminated then you have DLR. I think all Limiteds have them

The lights do shut off automatically. I've just been leaving my headlights on 24/7. When you turn the car off and get out, they shut off , and won't turn on again until you get back in. The only problem is you have to deal with that blasted buzzer. Anyone know how to remove the buzzer?

you're right, the patriot and most new chrysler vehicels for the past several years have a battery drain protection feature, whereby if you leave anything on that will drain the battery, it will turn it off by itself after a minute or two i think.
