The thing is that is not the same model, adn I know that this one fits, but the thing is I Live in canada... they don't ship it here and look the pictures, they say '' Cap has two triangular notches on both side'' you will see it highlighted in blue...

You could try stopping in to your local Canadian Dealership and buying it from there. Price for this item is not likely over-inflated.

at this price, it is Mopar, and the lock fits with the ignition key.... but at this price, not sure...

 

I bought this one: 2008 Jeep part number 5278655AB. The seller, airparkcjd is a Jeep dealer. It works just fine and the price is right.

An other thing 1st jeep4me, you only bought the cap and it comes with 2 key witch is different than your ignition key right?

 

Correct and for around $20 it's just as secure as the more expensive one. Plus, getting an extra key made is a lot cheaper than having to get one cut at a dealer.

 

The matching locking gas cap found in the Mopar Jeep Patriot accessory manual is: 05015636AB

I puchased this for around $60 and it is keyed by the dealer (free of charge) to match your Patriot. It works excellent.

Can I assume from this thread that the Pat does not have a locking gas door on it? Or at least one that needs to be opened from the inside of the vehicle

yes that is really bad, it seems like all the chrysler car are like that... I had a 92 toyota corolla and the gaz door was locked by the interior!!!

 

i was charged 69 canadian for the cap and ignition key to open it.

i think theres something in the filler neck that prevents people from stealing gas anyway, one of the members on the forum was trying to siphon gas out of his own tank and couldnt get the hose more 2 feet in from what i recall

There's one model from Canadian Tire that sells around $23 CAD. It's MotoRad, 23-0534-6 MGC-907. Works just fine.

 

From my experience working at an auto auction the locking gas caps are secure only until you try to open one with a screwdriver. I figure if someone wants to get into my tank that bad I'll give up the $20 cap vs the more expensive one.
